Creating 2 specific sites wasn’t an easy task.  Coming up with the ideas were hard at first but once I specifically knew what I (we) were after, it became all too clear.  Here are my top 3 pieces of advice to those who are just starting out:

  1. Look in the mirror. Figure out who you really are in the online world.  Are you a blogger?  A service provider? A freelance writer or artist?  With the infancy of the internet, now is the time to share your talents with the rest of the world.
  2. After you’ve looked in the mirror, research. Then, you guessed it, research some more.  Your goal is to find out what’s out there.  A term called co-petition (cooperation + competition) is one you should embrace.  Just because someone has a footprint in your area of expertise is no reason to be intimidated.  Which leads to my next point…
  3. Believe passionately in your idea. If you’re the impulsive type like me, you need to go back to step 1 and repeat step 1 just a few times before moving on.  It took me a while to figure out what I can provide as a service to the online world.  As well, I realized another identity:  I am an information and consumer whore so why shouldn’t I get paid to do it?  Over the next few posts, I’ll reveal these sites and more about my career path.

So you’re probably asking yourself, “If this dot-com-dummy has created 2 sites, what is up with the claim of not knowing anything about being a dot-com mogul?!”

The answer is simple:  sure, I can create 2 content rich sites but getting the word out and making a respectable footprint within the online community is something that I have no clue about.  So, who’s with me?  You all are talented or skilled or “special” in one way or another so what’s stopping you from taking that next step and discovering ways to drive traffic to your site and ultimately monetize it?
